Happiness is a choice!

My sister warned me! watch my mouth…

As I approached the treatment for the cancer, I was warned by my sister,  that I needed to take care of my mouth. I had no idea what I was in for. My mouth hurts! Wow, taking care of your mouth IS important when you are having chemo. I need to use mouth rinse several times a day and it really helps if I put melaleuca oil with my mouth rinse. When I say many I am talking about 10 times a day. The dentist made trays for my teeth and I put special toothpaste in them 3 times a day for an hour. I am not supposed to eat or drink one half hour after that.  This takes a lot of timing and planning! I can tell if I am not taking care of my teeth because they feel loose, and the sores increase. Another thing I can do for oral health is chew gum, use mints or brush your teeth with products that use xylitol as the sweetener.    I use a very soft tooth brush. I got mine from my dentist. My gums and teeth are definitely getting worse with each chemo treatment. At times I have thought that I will

Senior and injured at the beginning of the year

I had the opportunity to take care of my 18 year old son this weekend. Since he moved in with his dad I haven’t been able to love on him as much as I would like to. Clay had a life changing, hard event happen to him while playing football.  He was tackled and messed up his knee pretty serious, yes,  he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus. He has a great attitude and he put a brace on his leg and continued to do another favorite sport of his, RODEO, and rodeo he did until hours before surgery. He won a saddle team roping. He will be missing wrestling  and sadly he will not be able to defend his state championship. He is healing up and spending time with me.  I am good at resting, napping and watching movies. So he can go to school and maybe put some extra time into his fiddle and maybe get a gig with his siblings!    April 15th is the day he can do sports again. This super senior has a wonderful future and High School rodeo starts on April 15th. I am looking forward to cheering him on in any life experience he

Worry is the anticipation that…

To me, my grandmothers were a little bit parent, a little bit teacher and a little bit best friend. I was very close to both of them. I feel a closeness to them in many different instances. My grandma Nielsen sent me notes with a $25 check every month for our missionaries. This she did for all her grandchildren including my step children. We looked forward to the notes every month and I saved them. Grandma Lawana Nielsen was a lover of missionaries. She and my grandfather went on 2 service missions for our church. One in Alabama and one in Salt Lake City. She was so enthusiastic about missionary work she had a big world map and names and strings attached to show where all her missionaries went on their service mission. If you were related, by blood or marriage, and you went on a mission for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints you were on her board. Also she wanted a picture for her fridge on the current missionaries. She could have 5 missionaries at a time, grandchildren or great grandchildren and they would get $25 and a note every month. I know my grandmothers worried, they

Yummy! DiPitY DiPs

The place where people are always  hanging around is Dipity Dips  at the Farmers Market in Idaho Falls, Saturdays, May through October 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. We are all looking forward to seeing what Kristina came up with this week. Here is a sample of one of her packets. Croutons (Don’t throw away that bread.) Garden Herb Seasoning packet. In a bowl I combined 2 1/2 Tbsp seasoning with 2 Tbsp Basaltic Vinegar, 2 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar, and 3/4 cup canola oil Blend well. Dice 2 loaves of french bread into cubes. Spoon oil mixture onto cookie sheet, add cubed bread, mix to coat, drizzle oil over top if needed and blend. Place in preheated 400 oven for 8-10 minutes. Serve over salad, soup or use for dipping. Kristina is full of smiles and is ready to answer questions to the crowd as they try her wonderful creations.                   She started out making these mixes for her own family and they were a hit. Her mom was the instigator and encourager in this operation and it has turned into a full time job for Kristina. What a great healthy alternative to

Finest of Wheat

Psalm 147:12-14 “Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you. He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat.” I saw something of great value at the Farmers Market in Downtown Idaho Falls, hard white wheat. I have been using hard white wheat for 20 years and I love it. I use it for 99% of my baking.  I make cookies, brownies, cakes, and of course all my bread products with this wheat. I love supporting our neighbors doing their best at making a living and being creative. I think that is what I like about the Farmers Market so much, is the creativity. I love seeing what people come up with week after week. This is a great price on hard white wheat and it will last a very long time if you keep it dry.  The protein level is 12% and Idaho grown makes it the best.    He has some already in buckets also. How much do you need?
