Why do people hang onto garbage? Why is taking the garbage out such an argument? Is it my job? Is it your job? Can I smash this jug and squish it in tight and the next person will have to take it out?
Garbage can be on acres of farmland, where the farmer just can’t let go of old equipment and it fills the field with remnants of days gone by. It can be in our mind, the rotten sentence that plays over and over in your mind from a thoughtless outraged family member or friend. It can be in our own little corner of our room or fill a building. How do we throw it away and get over it?
Some never do. They die with the garbage in their head and on their land. If it is physical the next recipient may clean it up. If it is in our mind, it will rot for life and we will take it with us into the hereafter.
What will you do with your garbage?
I have made a living by taking people’s garbage and reusing, remaking, and reselling it. I have learned that it is a state of mind. Often the item is not valued. It started with horses for me. I took a horse that seemed to be worthless and cleaned it up and trained it. The animal was often unrecognizable to the original owner.
There is a scripture that I often refer to. D&C 109:5
Organize yourselves: prepare every needful thing and establish a house, been a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory: a house of order, a house of God.
As I have aged, I no longer train horses, but I do still use this concept in all aspects of my life. With the lessons I have learned, I take an object and make it “of worth. ” Then I sell it. With this concept, I have been able to bring in a little income for our family, teach others to do the same, and have given a continual financial contribution to, Underground Railroad. It comes around in a full circle. I am able to help human life, which is considered garbage to some and sold into sex trafficking, and give them hope.
Poverty is often in our heads. We don’t believe we can support ourselves. I have been in this vicious circle before in my life. Honestly, I believe that if it is to be, it is up to me. We can clean up the garbage in our own heads. A happy person is a millionaire.
