TABLE ROCK, 2017
To Renell
By Carol Sevy
When people look at us,
we are bald-headed white girls
who look the same.
We are.
And we are not.
Our hair will grow back,
our strength will return,
We won’t look the same.
But we will.
When we are all done with this chapter of our lives,
Meet me at the bottom of the mountain halfway between our homes.
We will climb Table Rock.
We will brush our hair out of our faces.
Our legs will be strong and we will climb.
Our bodies will ache in such a good way.
We are two different girls, no longer looking the same.
But we know we are.
