Happiness is a choice!

Sisters day

Sisters Day for my family started with my mom and all of her sister in 1982. My mom planned an amazing wedding celebration for me. Then she realized that she was way over her head. Her sisters jumped in and they worked every Thursday for three months to make my day memorable. They made my dress, bridesmaids dresses, little girls dresses, ties for the boys, centerpieces and all the food for the blessed occasion. It was the perfect day for me. What a wonderful celebration! They found that they could get a lot done mainly from 10 am to 12 pm one day a week. Many hands make light work. I was the recipient of their thoughtfulness, talents, and love. Sisters Day continued for years after that. I took my children to “Sisters Day.” They loved playing with cousins. We took turns on having it at each of our homes. This is how it worked. Every Thursday we would meet at someones home. They know beforehand and planed on a simple lunch for those who are coming. Sometimes the person in charge would call a potluck and we would bring leftovers or whatever we wanted.  They plan on a project

What is your Bald Headed Moment? How do you move from Hopeless to happy?

What is your Bald Headed Moment? How do you move from Hopeless to Happy? It was my first time out on my own, on this summer day.  I had a cute hat on my shiny bald head and was feeling a little sick from the chemo treatments, but I just had to get out. I felt like I had dealt with it well and decided to walk around downtown and go to my favorite store. All of a sudden I felt so embarrassed, I just looked at the ground. Maybe no one would notice that I was a skinhead under this hat. I saw her eyes, she was shocked, the little girl held tight to her mom’s hand. I love children and  I was scary to her. I looked down and tried to hide. The mom said a cheerful, “Hello, how are you today?” It took me out of my trance and I looked up. I smiled back and said, “Hello.” As I walked the next block, I decided that I would make this trip fast, it was odd, so not like myself, I was usually the one to smile and say hello first. As I entered the store there

Are you prideful in your poverty?

I turned to the Old Testament in the King James version of the bible for some answers to this question. “Have I been  you prideful in my poverty?” The answer is YES, I have. Proverbs 11:2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. I didn’t realize that I was prideful in my poverty. Then it hit me. I looked down on others or shamed them in my mind, or hinted to them, on how they spent money , or how I believed, they had wasted their money. Vacations and trips, was one of my ideas of wastefulness, but probably the biggest one for me was wasting money on worthless food. I prided myself that my family would eat fresh ground pancakes almost every day and for the fraction of the cost of cold cereal. I figured out that I could make homemade bread for $.15 a loaf. I canned, cooked from scratch and fed my family of 7 on a very tight budget. Now you are saying what is wrong with that? As the saying goes “rice and beans, beans and rice” that is the way to get out of debt. Nothing is wrong with cutting the cost

If you hate your job you shouldn’t be an entrepreneur

What??? But everyone wants the life of working on their own terms. Being their own boss, living the life of luxury, sleeping until 10am, wearing your pajamas all day, working from the beach and traveling? Have you heard the phrase, “The grass is always greener on the other side” How about one my dad always said to new home owners, “The pride of ownership.” Here are some lessons I have learned from being an entrepreneur pretty much all my life. I am 52 years old and so I have had a few experiences. – Work your day job. If you are working at McDonalds, think of it as if it is your store. What would you do different? How would you run it if you owned it? Maybe it has a program to help you get you more education for what you are dreaming about? Work your job and then work every second you can at what you are really wanting to do. When you are making more money at the entrepreneurial dream job, then quit the job you really don’t like. When you are doing your entrepreneurial job there will be ups and downs. There will be times that

I. F. I was a duck

As everyone can tell, I love Idaho Falls. I know the “downtown” like the back of my hand. I have been on every trail around the green belt and look forward to all the new construction every year. I have lived in the vicinities of Idaho Falls my entire life. My husband works in downtown Idaho Falls and  I go with him often, just to do what I want. I like to explore new stores, new things around the Green Belt and just enjoy the wildlife and especially the ducks. I think of myself as a duck sometimes. When the troubles of the world try to overpower me and I feel like I am suffocating. I remember the first moment I felt my bald head. My tiny, shiny, bald head. I take the troubles that are in my head, wrap them up in a bald headed moment, because that is when I discovered bald headed moments, and make it into a drop of water. I throw it up in the air and let it hit the back of my neck, my chin, my back, it doesn’t matter. Because wherever it lands, it just rolls off and evaporates. I walk around the river,
